Things to Do at Brixham Pirate Festival 2026
Go to listing ↓The Brixham Pirate Festival is a weekend-long celebration held in Brixham's historic harbour, bringing pirate-themed entertainment, live music and family activities to the town's quayside.
Stalls, stages and street performers fill the harbourside for the festival's duration, with local food and drink traders, market stalls and costumed entertainers turning Brixham into a pirate-themed town for the weekend.
This page lists the festival's own exhibitors, stages and activities — separate from Brixham's regular year-round listings — so you can see everything happening at the festival itself in one place.
Brixham Pirate Festival 2026 History
Brixham Pirate Festival draws its theme from a genuine chapter of South Devon's history. The waters around Torbay and the wider South West coast have a long, well-documented association with privateering and smuggling, particularly during the 17th and 18th centuries, when the area's coves and harbours offered cover for vessels moving goods — and sometimes worse — beyond the reach of the authorities. Brixham's own working harbour, still lined with real fishing boats today, sits right at the heart of that history.
The festival brings that maritime folklore to life across the harbour and town each year, with costumed characters, live music, market stalls and family entertainment layered over Brixham's genuine seafaring backdrop. Unlike a purely invented theme, the pirate framing taps into a real regional history of privateers, smugglers and the maritime trade that shaped towns like Brixham long before tourism did — part of what makes the festival feel rooted in the town itself, rather than simply borrowed from elsewhere.
